An inspector from German company CSL-Plasma confirmed on Sat. for the second time this year that Tehran Blood Transfusion Center has observed all optimization principles in the production of blood plasma.
Dr. Seyed Morteza Tabatabaei, Director General of Tehran Blood Transfusion Center, said on 23-24 November 2015 a representative from CSL-Plasma evaluated the process of plasma production from the stage of blood donation to storing and issued a provisional approval.
He went on to add, “in the second inspection which took place four months after the initial one, the continued quality of production and the observance of all optimization principles were confirmed and Tehran Blood Transfusion Center managed to become the first among other provinces in the country to obtain a biennial certification for plasma production."
According to Tabatabaei, the country requires 600,000 liter blood plasma each year.
Among Asian and Islamic states, Iran is the only country so far to have obtained a quality certification from the CSL-Plasma in Germany for blood plasma production.
Last month, Head of Iran Blood Transfusion Organization said the country plans to export blood plasma to Switzerland for the production of plasma-derived medicines, following the implementation of the nuclear agreement and the lift of international sanctions.
According to Dr. Ali Akbar Pourfathollah, “the collected plasma is currently worth around $11 million but with the increase in plasma production in two years up to 250,000 liter in a year as well as up to 200,000 plasma through Plasmapheresis, the value could reach $17 million.”
